Bought as a used book for little to nothing, the book was in mint condition, not a mark, infact it looked brand new to me. I read that he described the book as ‘A stir-up of diary’ which perfectly describes the tone of the book, however this is where the book might suit some readers or turn others off. Wow what a beautiful book.

The first 25 pages are short chapters on aspects of winter which are written to make the reader feel emotive and share Nigel’s passion for mid-winter. Will try again with twice the flour and will let you know if they work.

The pages and images are also not a glossy finish but rather a soft matt which compliments the whole feel. !

please rectify this gaffe and BUY HIS BOOKS ! However, tried to make the mince pie recipe on page 196 and I’m pretty sure the flour ratio to fat is wrong, I knew something wasn’t right during mixing and had to put pastry in freezer to make it workable and this was the result.

Titles like, ‘coming in from ‘the cold’ and ‘drinking winter – raising the glass’ should give you an idea of how he sets the reader up at the start of the book and this makes it much more than a cook book. Content:Despite being called the Christmas Chronicles, Nigel takes the reader through a journey from November 1st to 2nd Feb and do not think that this is a cook book, it is not.

I really love this book. I personally like it as a pick up and read book, diving into small sections and enjoying his take on the winter months. Haven’t got far reading this and what I’ve read so far is a hug in book form.

I hope you found this review helpful. This Winter volume fulfilled all my ‘hygge” hopes for this austere but beautiful season, and I’m still reading and cooking through this gorgeous volume, given to me for Christmas.
