The RHS Encyclopaedia of Plants and Flowers is a large heavy book according to the postman that delivered it. This book is incredible & was worth the cost! It is the way you tend to remember a mystery plant and track it down.

It's useful, very, and also perfect to sit and enjoy. I often return to it despite search engines and the internet because no site yet has everything in one place like this. Then comes a section where each plant is described in detail with ideal planting conditions.

The catalogue is also sub sectioned into colours and symbols are also shown (with a handy reference to what they are and how to use this book on pages 8 and 9) The abbreviations are also explained along with names and cross references, listed alphabetically. horticulture book that I have ever seen! The plant catalogue itself has sections under;Trees, (with sub sections such as small, medium and large trees and types such as conifers or magnolias)Shrubs (again sub sections such as small, medium and large)RosesClimbers and Wall ShrubsPerennialsAnnuals, biennials, And BeddingRock Plants,BulbsWater and Bog PlantsTender and Exotic Plants. It weighs in at 3kg and is a book for two hands and a table.

It is not often that you get something for review that you would want to buy as in my case but I would happily spend £40 for it. I am already a huge fan of The Royal Horticultural Society’s Encyclopaedia of Plants and Flowers, this one has a beautifully designed hardcover with wonderful illustrations.

Kilhabras

It is fundamentally a reference book and yet it has so much more useful information from learning what types of soil your garden has to knowing what to plant where and why when designing a garden. I know there are hundreds but the symbol indicating a RHS award of merit let’s you know they are good ones.

This is not a coffee table book filled with images of wonderful gardens, there are many such books to fill that genre. Be warned - this is a heavy book! I hope this review and the photos are helpful.
