About this deal

Modern Design & Weather-Sealing

The new MF 85mm F1. For this same purpose, the lens is equipped with a nine-bladed aperture diaphragm. The autofocus system has been reworked with an STM motor that acquires subjects quickly and quietly and can be controlled in a number of ways thanks to its customizable AF Lock button and focus ring. Thanks to its compact optical design and aluminum construction, it can be contained within a small and lightweight body, enabling photographers to carry and handle a lens of this type with ease. The body of the lens, made entirely out of metal, sports full weather sealing to keep out moisture, dust, and other contaminants. Weather-sealing is located around the lens mount area to prevent infiltration of moisture and/or rain drops. Images on the swatch selection are merely mock-ups. In its second generation it manages to reduce both size and weight while improving optical and autofocus performance.  LIFEGUARD Premium Vinyl Skin

4 Mk2 Lens

  • 9 rounded aperture blades help to produce a buttery smooth bokeh.
  • The new MKII brings a weather sealed mount and a declicked aperture ring, ideal for shooting video.
  • The lens consists of 9 elements, one of which is a Hybrid Aspherical and also features UMC coating, all to help with the reduction of chromatic aberration.
  • Despite the large aperture, the lens only weighs 550g.
  • The bright f1.
  • 4 aperture can create a beautiful seperation between the subject and background.

Reviews

Antz got earache

I can't reliably fly this on a gimbal with AF on or it gets messy real fast. The built quality superb and surprising compact fir a f1.

This lens is extremly lightweight, and small in size. I've updated all my firmware and it's still an issue so maybe I'm just unlucky. There are many reviews and comparisons on YouTube, so assess these yourself. Also, because of the IBIS feature in the camera, lack of OSS in the lens doesn't bother in stills but would be able to tell the difference in videos though.

I'm therefore resigned to just using it for stills which is definitely where it excels. It's not a bad pic at first glance but when zoomed in you can tell the difference. The focal length of 24mm would work well for interior photography with the lens set to it's widest aperture of f/2.

4 it's low light performance was incredible. I have to manually set the stabilisation in the dreaded Sony menu each time I want to use the lens (and remember to switch it back to auto when I'm finished). For me, when I travel I would prefer less weight and trade-off with some quality instead.

derek

In the picture of the stones, the autofocus struggled to focus the stones in front and when I thought it did focus not sure when it changed it to the stones down on the left. It isn't as good as L-Series lenses I've used in the past and needs to be stopped down for good sharpness in the corners, but it definitely punches above its weight.

Amazon Customer

Highly recommended. I’ve even done video on a gimble.
