So the next day I gelled up my face and did the same half and half thing as the day before, and at the end of it to be honest I couldn't tell much difference (in fairness my other shaver performs like Jenson Button in the wet) but: a) it cost twice as much and b) again it took much longer than the Braun and if you picture the scene with the Braun I'm making accurate tracks through the whiteness of the gel, whereas with the Cerberus style unit I'm making snow angels and I'm never sure without constant stroking whether the job's done or not. Obviously this had to wait until the following day, as I was already clean-shaven. It’s a good shave

Next step was to charge it (although it arrives partially charged) and NOTE: you will need a shaver adaptor in the UK to charge it (I already had one), they're cheap and readily available (two round pins one side to standard British 3 pin plug on the other). I like the vicious looking centre foil, it gets rid of longer hairs instead of pulling them out as some shavers doThe shave is nice, when full charged the shaver is moving pretty fast to trim those stubborn hairs away . Charging is really quick, from flat to useable in a few minutes, awesome for who I forgot to put it on charge.

Series 5 does not come with a caseSeries 6 and 7 both come with a soft zipped case that will hold the shaver but no accessories, for example the cable and the precision trimmer. Also supplied is a cleaning brush and a clip on precision trimmer for those of you that like to shape your beard or moustacheI was lucky enough to receive series 5, 6 and 7 to review so I am able to give a direct comparison of the 3 models for this of you unsure which Braun shaver to purchase. You'll want to get hold of some dedicated 'electric shave' gel, this costs about the same as shaving foam, but lasts for ages, one little button-sized dollop will cover the whole area you want to shave.

The unit arrives in a glossy box containing the shaver, smart charging cable, brush and trimmer; one of the first things I did was to click the shaving head off, replace it with the trimmer then reverse the process which was an absolute breeze - clicking on and off is tight and positive, without any 'am I gonna break it? . Once charged up I shaved the right-hand side of my face with the Braun and the left side with my usual shaver (oh, and I should say at this point that I'd ordered new heads for my old shaver which by mad happenstance turned up 25 minutes after this arrived, so I was comparing like with like in terms of sharpness). ' paranoia.
