As you will probably have noted from the product description, the L840 has a tilting screen, which is something I've never used before, but I can see why it would definitely be useful, for example if trying to take pictures over the top of a crowd of people, or a very low angle shot etc. Therefore, I was pleased to see that the lens cover on the L840 could only be removed by way of a very deliberate action i. Having said that, the power usage of this camera seems to be very reasonable so far and maybe this will actually be a non-issue, rather than a very minuscule one. On the other hand, a DSLR is very flexible in this respect, but the effort required in carrying around multiple, very heavy lenses is just too much for the average photographer (me included).

It should be noted however that it does swivel from left to right and therefore is not very practical for selfies etc. Therefore, there is actually very little learning required and if you've used a digital camera before, you should be able to use the L840, almost straight out of the box.

In terms of the Nikon Coolpix L840, the x38 optical zoom is fantastic and I personally think that this is demonstrated by the picture of the rather active blackbird (which would hardly stay still for more than a couple of seconds! I wish the instructions were a little clearer, I do find them to be vague as this is supposedly a camera suitable for novices like me! Following the guide, will inform you how to navigate around the photos you have taken, delete option available if you wish. The camera also offers, a 'changing the angle of the monitor,' for those more difficult shots when taking pictures in high or low positions. The camera feels well built.

There are options where you can switch mode to 'recording movies,' and special effects including the fashionable sepia tint. So batteries included!

Over the last number of years, I have experimented with many different makes and models of camera, including compact point and shoot variants, a DSLR and a number of super zoom "bridge" cameras. It must be said that using the camera is easy. I found the zoom, particularly valuable, when photographing outside locations. There is also a powerful nod to the social media market, with WiFi available, so you can transmit those photos quickly after taking them.

My last comment may seem like I get impressed very easily, but I have to say that I liked the design of the dust cover. I have always owned small compact cameras and for years have used a smartphone as my only camera.
