It’s smaller than I thought, which is great if you have to make space on a crowded desktop but probably limits it to close-up, personal use rather than, say, cooling a room. Me and kid are warm, hubby cool.

I’m not a great fan – ahem – of sitting in a draft, so if it’s right at my elbow a choice between two speeds is a bonus, and they are easily managed from the big switch on the top. The air movement comes from a collection of vertical blades that spin round a vertical axis, a bit like the test tubes in the CSI centrifuge. It is good for people working on desk, or if you need small area to be cooled down.

I’m not entirely sure that "looks like a centrifuge" actually qualifies it to be advertised as “centrifugal”, though. Nice size and design. Oscillation is another feature I appreciate to keep out of a permanent draft, although the quoted 70-degree span is narrower than the 90-plus from the old school workhorses I already have about the place. Product itself is fine.

My kitchen is the hottest place in house. It’s fairly quiet while running, but to be honest that’s what I’d expect with something smaller than my OG office desk fan, which is a couple of feet tall and 15 to 18 inches across but also reasonably sonically unobtrusive.
It’s not a windmill. Pretty much what it says on the description. Black and Decker suggest this is a feature of the durable copper motor, so fingers crossed it’ll last as long as the ex-office fans I’ve – cough – inherited over the years. Bit noisy on 2nd speed
