I lose too much water in the process and it's messy. What a game changer! The wide nozzle prevents too much substrate pick-up. Works great considering it came used and with sand everywhere.

However, I'd suggest getting a few of the replacement filters to use during a cleaning cycle. You can see the before and after pics of the filter.

It was a shame about the enormous delivery packaging, otherwise its an excellent buy despite the price. I have a small saltwater tank that cleaning the substrate is a pain. Fortunately, I bought some spare filters together with the cleaner. So I just hover this over the top of sand to collect all the dirt.

Not a cheap cleaner but it works well - good suction and easy to clean and maintain. I love this product. Opened the Amazon box it came in and sand went everywhere

The suction is much greater than it appears as there is little disturbance in the aquarium and the device is almost silent. It took me minutes to clean with this vacuum.
I also use it for water changes as just slide a hose pipe over the supplied adapter. Not sure what others did wrong, but it certainly did not leave my tank a mess.
As I sad above, the filters are easily rinsed under a tap - though I am not sure how long they will last. I have a sand substrate, and the benefit of sand is all debris sits on surface.
