She writes in the voice of the people and describes the scenes vividly so that you feel there. My all time favorite historical fiction book!

I read it in less than a day because once I started, I couldn’t stop. This book explores the life of Cussy Carter, the last living female of the rare Blue People ancestry and is based on true life. I even started my review as I went along because I didn’t want to forget the emotions that it was evoking in me. In a few lifetimes, how things have changed and evolved is really impressive.

The characters had personalities that go far beyond being well developed and heart felt. It’s a part of our history. I really do recommend this book especially if you enjoyed Where The Crawdads Sing. Cussy also happens to be quite unique because her skin is blue and she believes herself to be the last of her kind.

The story itself was well researched and gave me a great appreciation for Roosevelt’s Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, the blue skinned people of Kentucky, and the need to spread the written words in very rural Kentucky. I haven't written to many authors as a fan but I will this one.

📚 I had never heard of the blue skinned people of Kentucky or the Kentucky Pack Horse library service before. Love this book. It's also a story of Appalachia, extreme poverty, discrimination, women's sufferings, miners, and a love story. This novel is a love letter to books.

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek I really have no idea why this book isn’t getting more hype. 📚 This novel discussed many heavy topics- racism, poverty, arranged and abusive marriages, horrible conditions in the mines, starving children, etc.

She is one of the blue-skinned people of Kentucky. Well written, based on facts regarding the Fugates of Kentucky during the Depression. It will make you feel like it was written hundreds and hundreds of years ago. It’s so good!
