Each tree has sections on what group and family each belongs to, its typical height and spread, and descriptions of leaves, fruits and bark. As full-time home educators, we really value good quality educational information resources.

It is a beautiful book. You can choose to skim or concentrate, and I’m pleased that I’m already able to finally recognise some of the more common trees. I’m almost ashamed to say that being able to name familiar British trees has been a hole in my education up to now, but this beautiful heavyweight book written by Michael Scott, Ross Bayton, Andrew Mikolajski and Keith Rushforth; and published by DK goes a long way to addressing that shortfall.

Update - I returned the damaged book and Amazon replaced immediately with a perfect copy. Chapter 3 is by far the biggest and concentrates on flowering trees, and here the extra concentration on flowers, seeds and tricks used to ensure pollination are well written. Again, beautiful photos and drawings abound, showing leaves, fruits, locations found in and historical uses. It’s a quality product.
There is a section on their evolution and another on how they defend themselves. This really is a beautiful book to get lost in, and at £30 I think it’s all of its money – you will not be disappointed. Of course with 60,000 species to choose from the book concentrates largely on the less exotic ones.
