With today’s watered down version of our language, deduced to abbreviations and emojis, it’s important to acknowledge the journey words have taken. She is too young to appreciate the book without my involvement, but with my guidance she is eager to learn and usually surprised by what the word reveals about itself (the illustrations help A LOT to keep her interest). This book can do that, while also prompting curious minds to learn more.

Combining an occasional bit of verse and lots of entertaining facts, these entries are presented with humor and accompanied by charming illustrations. The most beautiful children’s book I’ve ever seen! So educational and entertaining. I feel a family who has an English background might particularly enjoy this book.

I recommend the entry for “clodhopper” to provide a laugh for all ages. Tom takes you on the most beautiful tour of the alphabet through poems and stories, with incredible illustrations that bring the book to life. 📖
