What if I accidentally pop through the other side? Luckily this was easily provided in great detail and gave the offsets we needed to input into the Kreg jig. It was beyond easy and the results were awesome!

But since we love Kreg, we thought we'd give it a try for our next build - - a closet cabinet with a huge door. Our hinges were 20.

Used the ruler that is on the jig to make sure my bottom and top height were a match. After taking about 15 minutes to familiarize myself with the jig, I put it to work and drilled eight flawless hinge pockets with pilot holes. Upon research, we found that Kreg (which we've seen promoted so much by a bunch of DIY'ers) has a jig that will do just what we needed.

Dust collection is non-existent, but I only made 8 doors so not a deal breaker. I'm sure we could have modded this to what we felt like setting it to, but decided to go with the given specification. Used Poplar so the bit had no troubles and didn’t stall out.

I definitely would recommend this and seems like Kreg makes a lot of very useful items for doing woodworking DIY. . First you have to read the packaging that comes with your hinge. I made a couple of test holes in some scrap wood to make sure my measurements were right, then once verified, made the cuts in the walnut for my mirror.

And the little holes to predrill for the screws are perfect to line up the cup into the hole. The bit is plenty sharp to cut walnut and oak with no chipping, just let the blade do the work. There is no way to drill through your piece if you set the collar correctly. I know the cost of the unit would go up if they made this change, but it'd be well worth the extra cost.

The jig instructions actually has multiple ways to calculate offsets since not all manufacturers provided it in the same way. Ours was to sit at a point that didn't correspond to the jig so we used 3mm which was close (the smallest) and it worked great.
