About this deal

Aleisha is a bright but anxious teenager working at the local library for the summer when she discovers a crumpled-up piece of paper in the back of To Kill a Mockingbird. Widower Mukesh lives a quiet life in Wembley, in West London after losing his beloved wife. Literally literal wrapping to adorn your chosen book gift for friends and family. Intrigued, and a little bored with her slow job at the checkout desk, she impulsively decides to read every book on the list, one after the other. "--Shondaland An unforgettable and heartwarming debut about how a chance encounter with a list of library books helps forge an unlikely friendship between two very different people in a London suburb. It's a list of novels that she's never heard of before. As each story gives up its magic, the books transport Aleisha from the painful realities she’s facing at home. A great idea for a book lover. Slowly, the shared books create a connection between two lonely souls, as fiction helps them escape their grief and everyday troubles and find joy again. "--Shondaland

I’ve always known how therapeutic reading fiction can be, but this book reinstalled how important it is for our mental health and general well being. And it's for anyone who'd like a reading list to help them embrace new authors, genres, and titles. Thanks to @netgalley @harpercollinsuk @harperfictionpr for allowing me to read this ARC. Everything has been included for a reason.

This book is sad and heartwarming all at the same time. Working at the library was never her first choice but the more she reads from ‘the reading list’ (- a mystery list of classic titles), the more she connects with Mukesh and escapes her troubles at home.

do not miss this one. Set in West London, I learnt a lot about British Indian culture whilst falling in love with each character. people who are on the edge of society and comfortable there, but could also do with a push in another direction.

The characters will stay with me for a long time as I warmed to them very quickly and loved seeing how fiction began to bring a community in a large city together in order to save the small local library. As he nervously begins to visit his local library, he crosses path with teenager Aleisha. Based around several popular books that draw parallels in the characters' lives, this is not a straightforward book for me to review because I always like to avoid any spoilers. I felt like I really got to know the characters personally.

Like Mukesh, he also doesn't really like books. It's endearing and just the book for moments when you need a feel good story! .
