The way he was written you feel what he felt, you were heighten when he was and when the conclusion comes to light you feel his disgust and denial. It's written in first person you are following his intricate tale. I loved the start of the book, learning about Crawford and family life before following his journey into spiritualism (look out for some recognisable character). I saved this novel to read during October as a way of setting the mood for Halloween season and I’m happy I did.

It is so well told and it's definitely one of my favourite ever books, it was the perfect first book to read of spooky season and I hand on my heart cannot wait to read more from AJ. It's a gripping tale that combines historical fiction with mystery, fantasty, and horror.

I have many mixed feelings about William Crawford. As a reader I don’t tend to read much historical fiction, but I was instantly gripped by the write up of the story.

Although, even he begins to doubt his own beliefs when he comes across the medium Kathleen Goligher. But a battered book is a well loved book I hope.
