Reviews

My bookworm life

I loved Olive, I thought she was brilliant and I felt for her so many times, and related to her so much on many occasions too. I also just loved her friendship group and how each one had so much going on, and how the story lines all were woven together, I really cared for these characters and wanted the best for them. It is so refreshing to see and I’m so happy that it has been fully explored and not just ‘glossed over’.

I loved the themes of friendship and also how relatable some of the moments were and I kept finding myself smiling thinking ‘yep done that’. ⁣⁣Now, I am slightly older than Olives character and no longer quite at that crossroads of life where I am trying to make sense of my thoughts, feelings and life choices.

Whatever the case this book will make you have some very strong opinions ! This book had so many moments that just made me sit and want to punch the air because to see your opinions and your intentions represented where they usually aren’t is a beautiful thing, and I felt this book did it brilliantly.

⁣⁣⁣There were so many other layers to this book, with Olives best friends all having various different ‘motherhood’ issues and I loved how Emma addressed these and explored the effects it can have on even the closest of friendships! My main takeaway from the book is perhaps you aren't meant to know, but just continue through life and it'll come to you. - Imogen ⁣⁣⁣⁣I would be really interested to know how those of you who have children, interpret and feel about this book?

It's okay if you change your mind. The friendship between these girls is ride or die, the main character is very relatable and makes you feel valid in your own thoughts, and overall its a fantastic story. ⁣⁣⁣⁣Finally thanks to @netgalley and @harpercollinsuk for my advance reader copy in exchange for a review. Honestly my favourite book of the year.

This cynical, thoughtful, soul searching book is a hoot to read. ⁣⁣⁣⁣As a woman myself, now in her early fourties who has chosen not to have children, I love that Emma has taken this taboo subject and has not been afraid to fully address it in this fictional narrative.
