(Ramen aggs. Egg storage holders for camping and picnics seemed like candidates for the job but they weren't deep enough. Nearly complete immersion with the minimum of marinade.

) Exorbitant prices for purpose-made containers on an auction site made me search for a sensible alternative, and this is it. But marinating one or two eggs at a time is a challenge. Then I saw these egg boilers.

A Japanese poundshop chain now sells a plastic gadget for two eggs, about 60p to buy in Japan but nearly £40 with p&p to the UK on the auction site. A clipped plastic bag can be made to work, but you really need an egg-shaped container that fits snugly around the egg to minimise the amount of liquid while still covering it consistently. Sorted. It's okay if you have a lot of eggs to marinate, because you can fill up most of the space in an ordinary container and keep them immersed without using a lot of liquid that you then have to throw away.

The mix is soy sauce, mirin, sake, and tsuyu, so it can get expensive. I haven't tried boiling eggs in these cups yet, but I've finally found the ideal container for making individual nitamago. So some research was called for.

Just watch out for the tiny vent hole in the lid and keep them upright in the fridge.
