They are not instant heat by any means, but after a few minutes they will provide a gradual warmth that is plenty enough to keep you cosy and warm. As for this item - both of mine arrived well packaged (see photo). The controlled has simple settings to choose the temperature, so you can actually choose a lower power mode that will cost even less than the calculations above. I would encourage people to invest as soon as possible because I expect these will be high demand over the winter, which I expect will increase the price of the item as stock gets sold.

The cord is plenty long enough for all normal households and I can't envisage anyone needing an extension cord. The trouble with other options (fan heaters, oil heaters, electric radiators etc) is that they try to heat up a large amount of air via convection or radiation, which requires a significant amount of power to achieve a comfortable warm environment.

You will quickly see how this will only cost a tiny fraction of the amount to run. Comfort and good value for money . 085kWh of electricity (multiply this by the amount you pay per kWh and you will see it costs hardly anything to run). For example, using it for 1 hour before bed would only use 0.

It also means you can heat yourself rather than heating a whole room. Combine this with a high quality insulated duvet and I assure you that you will be toast warm without having to break the bank! The heating elements are not too thick, meaning it is comfortable to sleep on.

For refence I paid approximately £20 GBP for each of these which I expect to make back quite soon with the amount I will save on utility bills. From doing extensive reading I have concluded that an electric blanket seems to be the best option - by providing long-lasting, comfortable warmth whilst only using a tiny amount of electricity. Using an electric blanket achieves a warming effect via conduction, which is a much more efficient way to transfer warmth. This results in drawing a tiny amount of electricity of 85W compared to electric heaters which often draw 2000W in comparison (often a lot more).
