About this deal

Attributes

Subtle lemon and sweet heather honey complement Bowmore’s trademark peat smoke, leading to a delicious, long and mellow finish. The Bowmore distillery on Islay was built in 1779, at least that's the claim made by their marketeers. Richly phenolic with a perfect balance between peat and medicine Bowmore 12-year-old is surprisingly complex and is now totally devoid of any perfume, soap or lavender notes that blighted older versions distilled in the 80s. Founded over two centuries ago in 1779, Bowmore is the first recorded distillery on Islay (pronounced ‘eye-la’) and one of the oldest in the whole of Scotland. It's the final three years spent in Oloroso sherry casks that gives Bowmore 15 Year Old the rich, deep colour and robust warming finish. Bowmore 12yo has a place in many hearts as Islay's 'medium-peated' malt. The finish is trademark gentle peat smoke, leading to a delicious, mellow length. The quintessential Old Fashioned recipe is the easiest cocktail to make. Hats off to HYKE GinSt.

Reviews

Ngangom

It has honeyed fruit on the nose and initially on the palate, but that's soon kicked into submission by a complex warmth of leathery, smoky deliciousness that belies its age. I've reviewed that as well and provided a side-by-side so you can see the colour difference too if that's of interest.

I've long been a fan of Bowmore's 12 year old offering, but having tried the 'new' Legend and some other similarly aged whiskies from other distilleries I've found new love for this classic. When it's on offer under £30 it's tremendous value, at under £25 it's a steal and makes a mockery of the 'new' Bowmore Legend which isn't really a patch on the old one. Smooth and its mildly peaty flavour with fruity aroma plays a delicate balance in giving an overall great experience. The finish is as promised, long and lingering, which makes this an ideal sipping drink over those long winter nights.
