Push the internal shaft into the Collet until it meets resistance (about 12 mm) then tighten the Collet Chuck Nut. I bought this tool because of its flexibility, it seemed to offer an attachment other similar tools did not.
Take care when opening up the Collet (the copper coloured object, luckily five are supplied) - open it up just enough to take the internal shaft and put it into the Collet Chuck. The instructions for installing (attaching) the flexible shaft are not as clear as needed in my view so I have attached a photo to clarify.
