When the change-over within the British monarchy happens, it should prove to be very interesting times. The Duleep Singh family's story is made even more poignant at the conclusion of the book when their family line ends with Sophia and Bamba, against the backdrop of Indian Independence and also the partition of the Punjab region that their grandfather once united. Indeed, but how can anyone be reasonably expected to learn meaningful lessons when victors write the history books and only offer a biased account?
Not once, whilst growing up, do I recall anyone in the family, gurudwara/temple or community talk about the one-eyed King Ranjit Singh or Jind Kaur or the Duleep Singh's. For example, India has since gained independence from Britain and Duleep Singh (who is credited with giving Queen Victoria the Koh-i-Noor diamond, albeit under contentious circumstances as he was just a child.
