Super rich, creamy espresso shots without the need for an expensive and bulky countertop unit. All of the parts interrelate, as I mentioned.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It does not heat the water for you. And the physical effort is somewhat curbing my caffeine intake, which is not a bad thing. Use premium, well roasted whole beans.

I bought this for the ritual of making a double shot with great crema. One down side worth noting however is that even if you do preheat the machine before the first espresso pull, the espresso still loses a notable amount of temperature and isn’t quite as hot as it should be. Especially if you take short trips, cant bare to be without good espresso, and don’t mind a bit of prep keep reading. You could maybe get away without the grinder and scale.

Weigh it out. Unless you are used to making espresso with a manual or semi-automatic machine, the process will be unfamiliar, the machine complex, and the instructions will be confusing – all 23 steps of them.

- Is it worth it? Everything about the design is monumentally game changing for the coffee industry. Just not on the road or trail (surely, this says more about me than the picopresso).

I bought this as a person who has reduced caffeine intake to the bare minimum of enjoying the making of/brewing of/taste over quantity experiences. Grind them ultra fine (don’t go as far as Turkish coffee fine, though). For me personally this will be great for an upcoming weekend away where I know I will be stuck in a hotel with a kettle in my room but no decent coffee. It takes about 10 minutes all said and done to hand grind and brew a double shot of espresso, then clean the device.

After 6 months of use I'm confident that the Picopresso has to be the greatest portable espresso makers out there. And you will need a very-fine grind. (1) Grind coffee super fine(2) Add the ground coffee,(3) tamp the coffee,(4) add the shower screen and screw it all together(5) add the water to the top and get pumping.
