The story is utterly and extraordinarily brilliant. The Walter Scott springs to mind, because of the historical setting. It definitely makes you think about all the unsung heroes in our lives.

Whilst music was too painful for him during his grieving, he soon discovers that it can also be a balm fornthe soul and indeed singing may release him and help him begin to move forwards. I’ve read it in two days. William answers that call and attends to the tragedy with the most beautiful tenderness.

William has been gifted with the angelic voice of a chorister. Thank you to The Pigeonhole, Faber Books and Jo Browning Wroe for the opportunity to join the read-along for this novel.

Highly recommended! #aterriblekindness #jobrowningwroe #thepigeonholehq I have already recommended this book to so many friends and I am so excited at the number of articles (newspaper and magazines) that reference this beautiful debut novel. This book is beautiful.

A friend gave me this book and I wasn’t keen on reading about embalming but it is so much more than that! The writing is evocative. This is a book that demands a playlist to listen along to while reading.
This beautifully written debut novel examines hopes and expectations, disappointments and misunderstandings, insecurities and fears. The book is really a Bildungsroman which tracks his childhood in a boys’ boarding school, where he is placed because of his precocious ability as a chorister.
