Read it and let’s make a start on making the change! NO we're not! Also needs to be shared far and wide in schools…if you don’t reflect and change your practice as a result, I would be amazed. Just finished reading this amazing new book by @CathyWassell …it was delivered yesterday afternoon.

Many Books on Autism describe it from a predominantly male point of view. I was very grateful for the inclusion of the chapter entitled Future, as I have to admit that is something I often worry about for my daughter but the author's positive outlook has helped me to realise that the future doesn't have to be bleak, and my daughter can still have a 'normal' life with a few adjustments. The book is primarily aimed at looking at Autism in children who are approaching teenage years or who are already teenagers.

However my daughter is 8 and I read this book hoping to prepare myself better for when she reaches that age, but I can honestly say it's been more informative and relevant to me than any book on Autism I have previously read. #Autism #autismawareness #newlydiagnosed #schools #education Since my daughter was diagnosed as Autistic I have read many books on the subject.

I would very much reccomend it to any parent who has a child on the spectrum or who is suspected to be on the spectrum. !

I also loved the chapter on Autism Myths where the author challenges these myths. The chapter on Autism Presentation in Different groups was also a favourite of mine.

Oh how I wish my daughter had been delivered with a copy…life would have been so much simpler for us all. This book gives examples of those masking behaviours, how to recognise them and how to help, which I very much appreciated. Many are just plain nonsense as she explains, such as 'Autistic People are Loners', 'Autistic People have no Sense of humour' and the theory that 'We're all a Bit Autistic' because NO. It was obvious that she has felt the same frustration at the diagnoses process and having to constantly fight for support as I have myself, yet her view of Autism remains positive, preferring to see it simply as a different neurotype rather then a disability as she questionswho decides neurotypical is the right way anyway?
