They seem more bothered then the adults in the book. ✨ Sitting in front of the laptop, struggling to search for the appropriate vocabulary to describe what I felt while reading Jai’s perspective of the world. In delineating the grave realities of social, political, and domestic, Anappara has put together an endearing and intriguing novel. Jay's narrative is one that is innocent yet all-knowing in one breadth.

A heartbreaking read but a realistic one. ✨ When Jai talks about the hi-fi bajees, their demeanours, I may not have been in the exact same situation but I know how it feels like when people would ramble about lawn sales with you while your parents are losing their sleep over your school fees. Next time, if a street child scrubs off the dirt from your windshield, even though you have not asked for it, the least you could do is be gentle.

This ordinary story was an eye-opener to the fact that even unintentionally, we could wreck sentiments while standing high and mighty on our status bandwagon. Djinns are a type of spirit or animal from folklore and so the story takes on quite a mythical tone.

The group of friends in the book travel around the city and the stations on the purple line. ‘Djinn Patrol on the purple line’ is debut novel of Deepa Anappara. The TV show they watch is of course the key which sparks off the whole story! How they would nonchalantly point out the tiniest bit of flaw in your furniture or your appearance while knowingly disregard your respect if it comes to giving you a present.
You can tell he’s excited to solve crimes like his hero but doesn’t seem to be aware that he, too, could be a victim. Would recommend everyone to read it.
