It encourages exploration and imagination as well as creativity. We preferred it a mix of both where we built a collection and then chose an activity but if we were missing something that could be used we would go out to try to find it. You can use seeds and buttons to decorate pictures, collect sea shells or even make pictures out of moss!

My 11yr old absolutely loved this and spent ages one day on 1 page and was so proud of what she achieved at the end. A smaller notebook sized version would have been more portable and child carry friendly, but then you'd have sacrificed the space to drawer and record, which when you are young, is very important.

You could do this either way and see what you want to do before you go and try to find the items or build a collection and then fund an activity. I worked with my daughter to complete some pages and she loves it! Beautifully illustrated and laid out. This book is a fabulous prompt to extend any walks or to continue play with the various leaves and sticks you find out in adventures.

You are asked to find evidence of dragons, imagine tree stumps that could be portals, make a potion, gaze at clouds as well as note down what human or natural sounds you can hear, or what you've observed change over time. The children adore the illustrations, easy to read instructions and seem to access it at almost any age because anything goes. A simple and fun activity book to do while outdoors. I'm really excited to do this too as an adult!
