You can get around this by using an extension lead if that is practical for you as you’ll not get a better performing iron in this price bracket. I needed to replace my iron which must be around 14 years old as the flex was starting fray seriously the only thing that's wrong with it. Luckily I live in Scotland so the water is soft, no horrible limescale build up, though the iron does have a "Calc Clean Slider" to deal with that.

The base plate is an odd shape, looks like some of the new littoral stealth ships with a pinched in front end & flaring out after the nose. This is a basic iron, same make as my old one.

The cable is very short on this iron. I stand when I iron & if I don't use an extension cable it doesn't reach to the end of the board. You also get a 2-year worldwide guarantee which is great.

It does frequently heat up, this is indicated by an amber light but it doesn’t last long so doesn’t hold you up. Until I got this I hadn't done much ironing of late. Those are really the only negatives I could find. This is a light iron weighing 718g when empty, when the water tank is full it weighs 990g which still isn’t bad.

My old iron was beginning to leak a bit, plus being in extended lock-down I wasn't wearing much that needed ironed. The steam vent are like inverted steam geysers. .

It is easy to use and lightweight, good value for the price. While it is physically lighter and smaller the sole plate is actually about the same size. Fits in my iron storage thing well and actually sat in the iron rest of my ironing board without continuing to steam.
