My son lost the screws so it is taped up but that seems to be holding. The soft, clear plastic flap is so much easier on a cat than the rigid clear plastic or opaque plastic flap. Once I knew she was comfortable going down to the basement, I installed the cat door. **Update: 4 years later and 2 new cats have learned to use it!

Before cutting into my door, I trained her to go down there by leaving the basement door open a few days. It fits our other kitties fine.

I didn’t want any gaps at all so I followed instructions to trace the smallest insert and then expand little by little until it fit snug. This has been an awesome tool and it has held up well from constant (multiple times per day! The soft, magnetic flap makes it very easy for him to get in and out. (Our old cat door's magnet was missing, so the kitties had to learn to push this door open.

Don’t install it too close to the ground, or it will look weird and be uncomfortable for the cat to climb through. I thought she would never be bothered to go all the way down to our basement to do her business, let alone get down there by climbing through a little door. It took longer but it was worth it for the look.
