Keeps the action rolling and no second is spent in boredom. The Darkling was so intriguing and complex… Dark and cunning… Just everything that makes for the sort of villain I hate to love. loved this book and the plot but i find Alina and Mal to be a very bland and boring couple.

Perhaps it’ll make more sense in the other books, but it didn’t grab me there. Although it took me a while to warm up on Alina, the protagonist of the book, we befriended each other quickly. I am a sucker for the bad boy in fiction so it wasn't a surprise to me that I developed a soft spot for the Darkling. Bardugo is a compelling storyteller and her prose easy to read.

I don’t know what to believe anymore. While we’re talking about characters… Honorary mention goes out to the Darkling… Who I think I’m a little bit (aka a lot) in love with. I mean, haven’t we all had a point in our lives where someone has told us we’re good at something, and we’ve instantly denied it, due to a lack of faith in ourselves? It takes a while for me to envision it all in a way that makes sense to me.

I was drawn to the idea of Alina and the Darkling. The media could not be loaded. Villain is one of the most convincing I’ve read in a while — dark and twisted with a sense of charm.

"*Shadow and Bone sees a refugee, Alina, reveal a hidden power to save the life of her best friend, Mal. I'm curious what will happen in terms of the story's romance.

Alina is taken to train with the elite magical Grisha and their mysterious leader, the Darkling. "*I loved The Darkling, he was a great antagonist and kept the middle of the book interesting, where it felt like not much was happening.
