This is old school rum, without the now-common infuence of other wines and spirits, chill filtration, excess dilution, or added sugar. Nose: Very rich with dried apricots and tangy cinnamon, some very rich bold mixed tropical and orchard fruits in one big fruit salad, spices and a little dryness on the nose add to the complex mix from this old school Rum Smith & Cross can trace its lineage to 1788 laying claim to being one of England's oldest producers of sugar and spirits. A blend of approximately equal parts Wedderburn and Plummer, the former is aged for less than a year, and the latter is blended from rums that have spent between 18 months and three years in white oak barrels. - Sat. Containing only heavier bodied Wedderburn and medium bodied Plummer pot still distillates, famous for their notes of exotic fruits and spice and fermented using a local strain of yeast indigenous to Jamaica, Smith & Cross delivers a tour de force of flavour and complexity that historically made Jamaica Rum a cornerstone of many classic drinks. Palate: Thick and rich, massive spice notes carrying forth suggestions of dark fruit, prune, plum wine, vanilla, cedar, unlit cigars, calves leather and musty orange peel.
