Any background noises you get other than a hiss are down to dodgy output stages on whatever you've got plugged in (Phones, tablets and cheap laptops are notoriously bad! You might get a quiet or distorted sound out of a pair of headphones, but extended use will probably damage the unit as, because of the impedance mismatch, the circuitry will be drawing far too much currentAll audio equipment, no matter how good or expensive, generates some background noise, this is known as the noise floor. The MX-400 is extremely small and light. No noise.

Although not designed for it, the unit is versatile enough to work with much lower level signals from guitars and even some microphones, but in that case you have to be careful with levels otherwise some background noise can become audible. Tip: Google differences in signal levels from LINE, instrument and balanced or microphone.

Great value. The little mono blender does what it should do. Great product for the price. One application for this “magic cheese” is to generate a mono-sum.
New Name
mic, guitar, Trio band creator, looper, mobile phone output, wah wah, Zoom pedal etc (see pics) I am amazed how well it coped, no distortion, no cross over, handled three sound inputs very well, nice and clear, no buzzing etc, even when I added a sound effect from my mobile phone as the 4th input it was able to handle it, plenty of range in the controls etc. If you need stereo, you can use 2 of them (one MX-400 each for left and right).
