My reading experience: At one point in the story, Mary says something to her Aunt Nadine's dog, Chipotle (said like chip-oh-dull), and the actress, Jennifer Coolidge got in my mind and stayed for the duration of this book, which was genius. The dialogue exchanges between Nadine and Mary are intense. Highly recommend.

It’s been a long time where I read a book that kept me guessing. I love the author's note at the beginning, framing this as a part Stephen King homage, setting up "Carrie" to snap at the onset of perimenopause instead of puberty. This story is gripping right from the beginning.
