Della and her offspring had me inwardly growling a few times and I just wanted to give Sammy a big hug. The other main character (the older one - sorry I’m not a writer is it protagonist?

Edgar was such a grumpy beast, but I love the way Lou managed to get through to him, and I really felt for him as the story developed. But when Edgar gets back in touch with an old flame, Lou's big deal could be off the cards.

However, that isn't technically true, after a recent trip visiting friends, she made acquaintances with a grumpy old man who's behaviour she struggled to condone. I probably will love her work for a long time. The book is written in the third person and in the opening chapter we meet Lou, the protagonist and she has her first encounter with Edgar, the grumpy old man with whom her life becomes entangled.
I rate this 4. I love Jill Mansell’s book. He needs help and he needs it quick, especially after all his previous helpers have up and left already.
In terms of the story it certainly was heartwarming and uplifting with an interesting premise. I was drawn to the book because of the description and thought it sounded heartwarming. It was peppered with warmth, humour, emotion and intrigue and I loved reading it.
