Short of a Century
Need I say more? If you are willing to give it a try, even adults will like the story - the illustrations give pause and enable a more weighty consideration for the content. It is an interesting merger of tales with curious workings of magic, hordes of zombie-like villains and an old woman armed with the knowledge that horse meat goes bad in the summer. Unlike Neverwhere, the art found in The Sleeper and the Spindle has a much more prominent presence that in most cases compliment and in some cases advances the story.

I love this take on the Sleeping Beauty tale cum Snow White as a warrior queen, and the twist on happily ever after. The Book: It is is well bound and has high quality white hued glossy paper. The illustrations are a 10/10 and Neil Gaiman is a genius. You’ll have to buy it (hardcover) to truly see why.

Not suitable for children as the illustrations are quite graphic but beautiful all the same. However, what Gaiman does with The Sleeper and the Spindle is perhaps the same thing he did with Snow, Glass, Apples.

Rob Sanderson This book is stunning, from the tale itself to the gorgeous illustrations - and the front cover is magical! Eeriely chilling that inspire awe at the same time. KIND OF SPOILERI must say, I bought this book because I thought it was a lesbian retelling.

The book is luxuriant both in language and illustration, and perfectly represents the unique marriage between text and picture that the English 4-11 Picture Book Award seeks to celebrate. It's a beautiful beautiful short story book. I'm glad I got the hardcover. Riddell's art is the other half.

Even the endpapers of the book were cool. But the only drawback is the letters are too small. And the story ends in such a way that (spoiler alert) you forget the fairytale you grew up listening to.
