About this deal

I reckon it would've remained intact had it dropped six feet. Faint burnt currants. Ordered a bottle of Bruichladdich Islay Barley. Palate - Cakey, sherryish, sultanas with a malty, grassy, sweetness. Age/Vintage: 12 Years Old Finish - Peat becomes rich and spicy. It is preferable to enjoy whiskey in the matching glasses to ensure breathing and after all, the eye enjoys along with it and we also want to taste it in style. My taste buds are probably not sufficiently trained there.

Although I am not one of the specialists in the field of single malt whiskey and I don't regularly attend tastings, I still have a strong sense of taste and smell. The box looks like it’s been in someone’s cupboard for 20 years. The Royal Lochnagar comes in an attractive gift box with golden embossed elements and is therefore really a good gift.

The Scottish plateau around Lochnagar mountain gives the single malt its typical taste, which was also appreciated by the royal family. Priced at just under 37 euros at the time of the test, but a bit too expensive. After pouring, you give him some time to breathe, similar to a good glass of red wine.

Conclusion: For me as a beginner, a very good whiskey, tasty yet mild. The outer packaging also looks stylish and valuable, making it suitable as a gift. The color is golden yellow, goes in the direction of amber and gives a first pleasurable, visual impression of the whiskey.

Disappointing when it’s a gift. However, I found the fairly thick aluminum clasp quite difficult to open, after using a knife, a fairly sharp edge remained. After a first sip, which we also leave in our mouth for a short time, similar to when enjoying a wine, we taste various nuances that end with a slight spiciness in the finish. This is my boyfriends favourite Whisky so I got for his birthday.

I'm not an expert in this area, much more of a total beginner. For only 40%, I find it quite spicy but mild in taste, but in addition to the strong smoky aroma, I only taste a bit of caramel. After a few minutes at room temperature, the Royal Lochnagar gives off a pleasant spicy scent. As soon as you opened the bottle, you could feel the spicy and at the same time sweet smell.
