Click mode on the front of the screen and use the side buttons up or down to get to adjust channels. We'd previously relied on battery operated doorbells (she also has a wrist alert, which contacts a call centre, if need be), but though perfect around the house they were unreliable if I was working in the garden (the signal didn't always get through and the alarm wasn't loud enough--especially as we live beside a busy main road). These walkies were set on channel 1, DCS 1 by default. Using the mode menu, and turn DCS to off and CTCSS to 1 and then it seemed to work both ways with those walkies.

They're incredibly easy to set-up, and with the range of available channels and frequencies, you shouldn't have any trouble in making sure yours are yours alone. The signal is perfect and I'm happy to report that at full volume, even when cutting the grass with a loud mower and busy traffic fairly close by, I can still hear her very clearly. I now use these whenever I'm outside--or even working in the garage--and they are excellent for this purpose.

I do like the idea of them being rugged and having dropped one already accidentally, it seemed to have survived without any damage. They never came off even fairly baggy trousers and such; though they do tend to rotate a lot when walking, so keep that in mind.

They do last for as long as you'll likely need - I tested these out several roads away from where I live and they picked up fine. It'll be down to you to decide if the brand and the claim for ruggednees is sufficient for you to pay the premium. For example they were on channel 1, security setting 1.

16 channels to choose from, and a handy belt clip which I must say, unlike some reviewers, I found to be fine. I got these walkie talkies as I care full time for my disabled mother--who is also partially deaf. The sound is clear – the hubby went into the garage with the door closed and we chatted while I was in the house without any interference and the battery life is brilliant and haven’t needed to recharge from over a week ago.
