They only grow in a particular soil type in the Roscoff area of France and they have a unique flavour and are a delicate pink in colour. They’re a little more expensive than the onions you see in supermarkets, but there’s a good reason for that. They’re almost good enough to eat as they are.
They keep well and I really like them. The taste is sweeter than most onions ( some Spanish onions have a sweetness, but not like these). They’re hand strung and they look amazing on the plait. It’s believed that the onion sellers who travelled around on bicycles selling onions originated from this region.
