The subtle observations of these precious moments and this special relationship are observed so beautifully by Davies that you become utterly absorbed in the island and all it has to hold. Ultimately, "Grandad's Island" is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring nature of love and memory. 🌟📖

Many happy hours are spent exploring and larking about, from renovating an abandoned shack to, sharing quiet moments enjoying the wildlife - The complete joy shared by the two and the fun and tenderness in their friendship pours from every page. Through Syd's eyes, readers experience the tender bond between grandparent and grandchild, as well as the profound impact of saying goodbye. But beneath the surface of adventure lies a deeper, more poignant story. At the heart of the story is Syd, a young boy whose ordinary visit to his Grandad's house transforms into an extraordinary adventure when he discovers a secret door leading to Grandad's island.

Davies skillfully navigates the delicate balance between joy and sorrow, gradually revealing the truth that Grandad's island is more than just a magical escape—it's a reflection of Grandad's own longing for adventure and the inevitability of his passing. This magical place, depicted with stunning detail and vibrant colors, becomes a symbol of escape and imagination for Syd and his Grandad.

As Syd and his Grandad journey through the island's wonders, we begin to sense a subtle undercurrent of melancholy. It's a timeless story that speaks to the universal experience of love, loss, and the enduring power of the human spirit. As with all good stories there must come an end .

Syd and his beloved Grandpa embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure together as his house magically transforms into a tall ship! I am a huge fan of picture books which feature strong and positive representations of the treasured bond between children and their grandparents, it is truly a unique and special relationship and one which should be celebrated just like this. Syd is a delightfully endearing little chap and his Grandpa whom fortunately he spends a great deal of time with is full of life and joy and an utterly unquenchable a taste for adventure. The emotional resonance of "Grandad's Island" is further heightened by its exploration of love and loss.

The mischievous pair find themselves washed up on on a mystical tropical island inhabited by vibrant wildlife and a very 'Handy-about-the-house' Orangutan. Davies handles these themes with sensitivity and grace, allowing readers to feel the full weight of Syd's emotions as he grapples with the reality of his Grandad's departure.
