It has a really smooth action and you get a good amount of forward thrust from a relatively small pull back, it makes me wish that all pull back cars worked this well! Playing with the assembled truck is real fun. We were working on it together but I had to do most of the technic pins and the trickier parts. Brilliant value Lego, bought some other sets which were a lot more expensive but this one is great value.

The pull back mechanism is all contained in its own box and it is attached to the rear axel to power the wheels. The actual car is good fun too although we have only built the shark so far and not the low down racer. The assembly was a bit hard for the young one.

I'm a bit disappointed by the pull back funtionality. Pull back mechanism allows you to propel the car under its own steam and could pair up with another vehicle in this set. The build was reasonably quick yet still a good challenge, but then this is one of the cheaper Technics sets at £18. But the latest Monster Trucks seemed fun with their animal decoration and pull back functionality so I bought the Megalodon and El Torro Loco.
